CATEGORY SELECTION / TRANSFER & YOUR POINTS
Category Selection is a crucial decision in order to have the best competitive field and for the racer to fit in with their peers.

The Virginia Off Road Series does not have a 'strict' category profile. The below are guidelines. If in doubt, just check with your peers or contact us with your questions.

Some basic guidelines:
BEGINNER
Little or no experience on a race course. Skill & stamina are minimal.

SPORT
Racing reflects improved skills, strength, experience, and stamina.

EXPERT
Racing skills, strength, experience, and stamina have reached an exceptional level; racing is fast & furious

SINGLESPEED
One gear to rule them all... regardless of race, environment or terrain

XCAT
3+ hours in the saddle is your style of racing. (but not always the case)

Monstercross Results... a 'benchmark' if you will

With this in mind, the below point transfer will apply if you decide to adjust your category selection. In order to make a category change, you will need to contact us and select 'Category Change' with your name, old category and new category.

RACE STYLES / CATS
Though a racer’s category is determined by their XC category or X-Cat through their registration, many race styles are available to participate in throughout the Series. These include XC (lap-based mountain bike races), XCAT (time based mountain bike races) and Multisport (more than 1 race discipline such as duathlon).

A racer must race at least once and register in their category to confirm their race category and will only receive points for races within their category, multisport, or XCAT races(see XCAT for details).  If a racer is registered for an XC category (EM, EW, SM, SW, SS, BM, or BW), they will receive points for racing Multisport or XCAT races. XC Athletes must achieve their point using at least 75% of their total number of XC Style races.

Categories used by Race Directors may be broken up into age groups or specialty categories. VORS combines all age groups within a VORS category to determine points being awarded. Specialty categories such as Clydesdale are combined with the XC Category with the same total distance. When registering with specialty race categories, please note if it will be combined into your correct VORS category.(QUESTIONS?)  It is the responsibility of the racer to make sure that the race category they register for will count towards their VORS category.

DUAL CATEGORY
This pertains to the Youth and XCATs.

Youth participants will also be ranked in Overall VORS Categories as well. XCAT participants will also be allowed a dual category in the XC Style but will need to register for both to define their XC Style & XCAT.
